Cold Picnic is a line of soft home goods designed by Phoebe Sung and Peter Buer. The pair, who both have backgrounds in fine arts and fashion design, met in Boston in 2006 and have been living and working together ever since.
Inspired by their love of film, national parks, wildlife, interior design and art, Phoebe and Peter began a series of handmade projects where they experimented with traditional crafts filtered through modern sensibilities. By 2013 these projects had coalesced into Cold Picnic.
Cold Picnic’s current work explores landscapes, often drawn from films they love - Islamic fairy tales about the desert, underwater adventures with Jacques Cousteau, road trip thrillers through the South of Spain / road trip thrillers through the American midwest, and animated fantasies about hidden worlds. These imagined and misremembered terrains influence the rugs, bathmats, blankets and pillows the couple design from their studio in Ridgewood, Queens.
